Steps to Take Following an Accident

It’s a fact of life that accidents happen. No matter how cautious one is when out on the road, one cannot control the actions of others. Any time a driver is involved in an accident, there are certain steps he or she should take to prevent problems now and in the future. By following these steps, the driver minimizes the effects of the accident and moves forward with life.

The first thing to do is to contact the proper authorities, especially when injuries are involved. Assist those in need of medical care, when possible, and make sure the scene is secured and all involved are safe from passing vehicles. One doesn’t want more injuries to occur while waiting for the authorities to arrive.

Don’t provide anyone with the details of the accident and never admit fault in an accident. Statements taken now can be used against drivers if the case goes further, so it’s best to be quiet and only speak to the authorities when they arrive. One should take this time to record details of the accident, writing down everything they remember and taking pictures of the cars involved, the local area, traffic and weather conditions and more. Be sure to get contact information for the other driver along with any individuals who witnessed the accident for future use.

When speaking to the authorities, describe exactly what happened. Although an accident is scary, take a deep breath and walk them through it step by step. Did the other driver fail to signal properly or was erratic behavior observed before the crash? Small details can be of great importance at this time, therefore one needs to provide as much information as possible.

When the time comes to get one’s car repaired, an auto body shop must be selected. Many turn to Eurobahn for volkswagen greensboro nc auto body repairs. This provider is known for quality work done in a timely manner and offers a warranty on all work done. Don’t take the car to any volkswagen greensboro provider when this facility is ready and willing to help. Your Land Rover Suspension System – Feeling every Bump on the road?

2013-land-rover-lr2-front-end-off-road-4

Many people are attracted to Land Rovers because of the sophisticated appearance and luxuriously appointed interiors. However it is the ride, that silky smooth ride, which closes the deal for many Land Rover owners. The smooth Land Rover ride that it is famous for is due in large part to the Land Rover’s suspension system. Many Land Rovers on the road today have an air suspension system or SLS-self leveling suspension. This system provides a feathery soft ride over bumps and a quiet interior for passengers. However if you notice that bumps that your Land Rover used to glide over are suddenly becoming  jolts strong enough to spill your coffee you may be feeling the effects of a degraded or broken air suspension system in your Land Rover.

Your Land Rover Suspension System

The suspension in your Land Rover serves two key functions. It distributes the weight of the vehicle evenly as you accelerate and absorbs the energy from the road without disturbing the car or the interior. Your Land Rover air suspension is comprised of shock absorbers and linkages but it is the air that is the secret. Compressors inflate and deflate air bags, which provide support for your Land Rover’s suspension. On top of that, you can easily adjust the quantity of pressure in the air bags, which makes them stiffer when you’re loaded down with cargo or softer if you are just cruising around town. If your Land Rover’s air suspension starts to malfunction it will be pretty obvious to you. Your Land Rover may visible sit lower and you may experience some tire rubbing on the roof of the tire well, but the most obvious sign is that you will feel every bump on the road. If that happens have your Land Rover air suspension repair done right away to avoid further damage.

Greensboro, NC Land Rover Suspension Repair Experts

When it comes to hard-working systems that often go unappreciated, your Land Rover suspension system takes the cake. Whenever your air suspension is performing its job well, nobody notices. 2015 Jaguar F-type V-6 S Coupe near Greensboro, NC

New and Used Chevrolet and JAGUAR in Greensboro, NC

2015-jaguar-f-type-v-6-s-coupe

Now that Jaguar’s F-type fleet includes six distinct models, picking one that best suits your fancy can be daunting. The coupes excel in aesthetics and practicality, the convertibles are more fun. Venturing beyond that body-style fork, this test of a V-6 S coupe should assist your smart purchase decision.

The $77,925 S coupe lives at the sensible end of the price range; it is $12,000 more than the base hardtop, $22,000 less than the 550-hp R coupe, and $15,000 less than the most powerful convertible. What you get here is the aluminum-intensive body and chassis common to all F-types, a ZF eight-speed paddle-shifted automatic (a manual is coming soon), and a 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 boosted to 380 horsepower. Spending the extra $12,000 over the base coupe means 40 additional ponies, one-inch-larger (19-inch) wheels, bigger front brakes, cockpit-adjustable dampers, a limited-slip differential, launch control, and what Jaguar calls an Active Sport Exhaust system.

New Tesla Model S P85D near Greensboro, NC

Tesla Model S P85D Gets AWD; 0-60 MPH in 3.2 Seconds

Tesla

The camera does everything from seeing other cars to reading speed limit signs. Normal fare for luxury cars. Except it will also do a lane change for you just by pressing the turn signal stalk.

Last night, Elon Musk took the wraps off the new Tesla Model S. Dual motors and all-wheel drive don’t just make it faster, a new sensor array will make it safer too. Let’s break out each innovation, figure out what it is and how it works.

Dual Motors: Putting the “D” in the Tesla Model S P85D, an electric motor has been added to the front of the car, driving those wheels. Previously, the Model S was rear-wheel drive only.

That motor develops 221 bhp, taking the car’s total power up to a supercar-like 691 bhp. Combined torque is even more impressive at 687 lb-ft, growing from 362. The additional motor and its associated hardware adds 291 lbs of weight, taking the top-of-the-line P85D’s total weight to 4,936 lbs.

To put those numbers in perspective, the insane new Dodge Challenger Hellcat makes 707bhp, 650 lb-ft and weighs 4,449 lbs. The Tesla is faster to accelerate, reaching 60 mph in 3.2 seconds to the Hellcat’s 3.7 second time. The electric car is limited to a top speed of 155 mph, so will eventually be outrun by the 204 mph Internal Combustion Engine car.

Look for local BMW Greensboro shops near you

Telsamotors
The two motors powering the all-wheel drive Model S are visible in red.

Adding an electric motor to drive the front wheels is a vastly different approach to equipping an ICE car with a transfer case and All-Wheel Drive. Linking the front and rear wheels to the engine in an ICE car involves adding much weight and complication through an additional driveshaft, an arrangement that also limits the proportion of power that can be directed to either end, the speed at which that proportion can change and the degree of fine drive control that can be established. Electric drive systems in general can be controlled to a much finer degree and the D’s will be able to function completely independently of each other, vectoring torque to individual wheels in an ideal, instantaneous manner. This amount of control over motive force is an engineer’s wet dream.

Of course, all-wheel drive will enhance the Model S’s capability in inclement weather too, an important factor to the large number of luxury car buyers in the Northeast and something which will more fully enable Tesla to conquest sales in that market from established players like Mercedes, Audi and BMW.

Teslaradar
Long range radar (green), an image recognition camera (light blue), 360-degree ultrasonic radar and satellite data all inform both autopilot and the driver.

Autopilot: Musk says that Tesla is still five to six years away from a true, self-driving car. And regulations currently don’t permit use of such vehicles on the road, away from development allowances in California and Nevada. Instead, Tesla has fitted all new Model Ss with a sophisticated array of sensors intended to better inform the driver of conditions around the car and which can take some limited control to avoid crashes.

Long Range Radar: This looks ahead of the Model S, identifying the presence, direction of travel and relative speed of other cars. It can see further than the car’s headlights and cut through fog, rain or any other visual impairment.

Image Recognition Camera: This also looks ahead of the car, identifying and reading things like traffic signs, lane markings and pedestrians.

360 Degree Ultrasonic Radar: Looking all-around the car, this sensor is able to detect everything from cars in your blind spot to a stray pet about to run into the road, to a child playing behind you as you’re backing up; a soft-object capability the forward-facing long range radar does not have. Consider that a boon to motorcyclists too, Autopilot should be able to stop homicidally negligent car drivers from running us over!

GPS Data Integration W/Real-Time Traffic: Location based data is beamed to the car, informing it with a database of speed limits and traffic/road conditions.

August: Brake Safety Awareness Month

Make sure your brakes are in good working order, get them checked!
Make sure your brakes are in good working order, get them checked!

August isn’t just the last full month of summer, it’s also Brake Safety Awareness Month. If you’re planning on taking one last summer vacation before the season is over and before school starts, be sure to have your brakes checked out to keep you and your family safe on the road.

Brake Safety Awareness Month aims to encourage motorists to learn and be aware of the importance of having a safe brake system in their BMW.

We all know brakes wear and tear over time, so it’s important to stop into your independent BMW repair shop and have your brakes routinely checked for maintenance. Your qualified BMW mechanic will check the brake lining wear, fluid level, rotor thickness, condition of the hoses and brake lines, the brake dash and warning lights and perform other checks to correctly diagnose if there is a problem with your brake system.

Common warning signs that your BMW is needing brake service include:

  • Grinding
  • Squealing
  • Hard pedal feel
  • Pedal hops or vibrates
  • Soft or low brake pedal feel
  • BMW pulls to the left or right

If you experience any of these warning signs or you see your brake warning light on, it’s time to head into your local BMW service shop immediately for brake repair.

Search for a local, independent BMW repair shop with expert BMW mechanics that will inspect and service your brake system.

2014 BMW 228i Coupe – Greensboro, NC

bmw-228i-detroit-auto-show-017

The 228i Coupe is the entry-level vehicle in BMW’s 2 series line-up, offering rear wheel drive and compact size. Powering the 228i is a 2.0 liter four cylinder that produces 240 horsepower and 255 torques. The 228i isn’t exactly a lightweight at 3334 pounds, but according to a recent review by MotorTrend, it gets along just fine. Check out some highlights from MotorTrend’s review.

Despite not having a substantial weight advantage, the 228i does feel sprightlier than the four-cylinder 3 Series. The power is more than adequate to propel the dimensionally smaller 2 Series, and as always the eight-speed automatic transmission makes the most of that power.

Whether I was maneuvering through freeway traffic or pulling into a narrow parking spot, the 2’s smaller size made a noticeable difference. That extra awareness instills more confidence when attacking curvy on-ramps, allowing the driver to really push the limits. And with the 2 Series’ competent chassis, those limits are relatively high. Turn-in is sharp and immediate, and the car will hold its arc without much fuss or noticeable body roll. Part of this can be attributed to the M Sport model’s Adaptive M suspension, which includes electronically controlled shock absorbers.

Brake feel is confident and linear, which could have something to do with the $650 M Sport brakes, an optional package that adds larger rotors at either end, along with blue-painted calipers.

The interior is styled in typical BMW fashion, and resembles that of a scaled-down 3 Series. The sport seats that come with the M Sport package provide excellent support, with plenty of side bolstering to keep you in place when the need to carve a few canyon roads arises. Back seat passengers won’t be terribly uncomfortable either.

The bottom line is that the 2 Series is a huge win for BMW enthusiasts everywhere, and even if it isn’t the reborn 2002 that BMW’s marketing campaign says it is, it still marks a return to form for the roundel brand.

BMW Greensboro NC- BMW Recalls 156,000 Vehicles With 6-Cylinder Engines

11BMW-image-superJumbo

BMW is recalling about 156,000 vehicles equipped with 6-cylinder engines because a defect could cause stalling or engine damage, the automaker said in a news release Thursday. The action comes almost two years after the automaker began fixing the same models in China, according to a report the automaker filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

BMW said “in very rare cases the bolts holding the variable camshaft timing (Vanos) unit housing may become loose or, in extreme cases, break.” In such cases, the driver would be alerted by a check-engine warning light. Power to the engine could be reduced and “if ignored, the problem can become progressively worse, eventually leading to no-start conditions, stalling and engine damage.” Vanos is BMW’s variable-valve timing technology.

The models affected by the recall are the 1 Series, 3 Series, 5 Series, 5 Series Gran Turismo, X3, X5, X6 and Z4 from the 2010-12 model years, as well as the 2012 6 Series.

The automaker is not aware of any accidents related to the problem, David Buchko, a spokesman for BMW, said in an email.

In its report to N.H.T.S.A., BMW said that in 2011 it had about a dozen warranty claims “for various malfunctions involving the Vanos system.” BMW received some additional complaints in 2012 – sometimes the vehicles stalled, sometimes they didn’t.

In June 2012, as complaints worldwide mounted, BMW began replacing the bolts in Vanos units in China. But the automaker decided not to do the same in the United States “due to the very low rate of occurrence.” However, as more cases of stalling were reported in China, authorities there insisted this month on a safety recall.

BMW says it then decided to conduct a recall in the United States as well. For that recall, it will replace the four bolts suspected of causing the problem on each unit.

The automaker said it was also offering an extended warranty on about 170,000 additional 2010-12 BMW vehicles equipped with 6-cylinder engines. Those “experience much lower rates of Vanos bolt failure, will receive an extended warranty to address this condition.”

A BMW spokesman could not immediately be reached to identify those models and detail the length of the warranty.

BMW modular engines: B37, B38, B47 and B48 | Greensboro, NC

The new BMW modular engines were introduced one-by-one in the lineup and can be seen, or heard, in several BMW models. With a combination of three and four-cylinder units, the new B3x and B4x engine family powers a wide range of vehicles, from the new MINI to the upcoming BMW 2 Series Active Tourer.

BMW-i8-Dreizylinder-Motor-B38-1-750x500

Furthermore, the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer F45 which launches in September will exclusively use engines from the new engine family, which can be built independently of the number of cylinders and combustion principle on the same band.

The BMW modular motors are suitable for both longitudinal and for transverse installation, so can be used with front-wheel drive and in the large BMW series of rear wheel drive, as well as in the smaller vehicles of the BMW Group. Incidentally, even the new BMW i8 uses a three-cylinder petrol engine (B38) transversely mounted and with 231 hp.

BMW-B47-Diesel-Motor-Baukasten-Vierzylinder-Turbodiesel-Details1-750x499

Another engine debut in the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is the B37 three-cylinder diesel which will power the 216d Active Tourer model. The 116-hp diesel unit with 1.5 liters of displacement was first previewed two years ago in an experimental 1 Series Hatchback and the so-called “baby-six” has impressed us during the short drive. Also used in the MINI Cooper D, the small but potent engine will deliver a standard fuel consumption of 3.8 to 3.9 liters – equivalent to CO2 emissions 99-104 grams.

Moving up in the range, the 218d Active Tourer receives the new four-cylinder diesel BMW B47 in its 150-hp stage. With 4.1 to 4.3 liters fuel consumption, this engine hardly consumes more than the weaker three-cylinder.

The most powerful diesel 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW 220d Active Tourer, comes with the 190-hp expansion stage of the B47. Fuel consumption is rated at an astonishing 4.4 to 4.6 liters. Both B47 variants will also come in the new MINI models as well as in models with the xDrive system.

In the gasoline range, the entry level is the 136 hp BMW 218i Active Tourer which uses the three-cylinder petrol engine (B38) also found in the new MINI Cooper.

The EU consumption in this case is 4.9 to 5.2 liters per 100 kilometers.

2014-MINI-Cooper-F56-Dreizylinder-Motor-BMW-B38-750x500

In November, the BMW 220i Active Tourer will arrive as well with its B48 motor producing 192 hp. This engine is also used in MINI Cooper S F56 and is rated at 6.0 to 6.1 liters per 100 kilometers.

Customers looking for even more power for their front-wheel drive BMWs will have the choice to opt in for the 225i Active Tourer with a more powerful B48 variant: 231 hp and up to 350 Nm of torque.

In the case of the BMW 2er F45 225i, the engine is always combined with the automatic transmission, and on request, the xDrive traction can be picked as well.

Depending on the configuration, the standard consumption is 5.8 to 6.6 liter per 100 kilometers.

The extensive range of new BMW modular engines will continue to expand in the lineup, so we expect in the future a wide range of vehicles, from the 1 Series to the 6 Series, to be powered by them.
