BMW Six-Cylinder Engine | BMW Greensboro, NC

New BMW Six-Cylinder Engine, S55 | Greensboro, NC

BMW Greensboro, NC

The new BMW M3 Sedan and new BMW M4 Coupe from BMW M see a return to a six-in-line engine configuration, as used on the second and third generations of this iconic sports car. The new turbocharged unit, which can develop more than 7,500 rpm, combines the best of both worlds – on the one hand a high-revving design for instant response, linear power delivery over a wide engine speed range and an unmistakable and characterful engine note, and on the other hand BMW TwinPower Turbo technology for maximized torque over a broad rpm range. Efficiency is another important component of this new powerplant.

The new engine sees a slight power upgrade over the previous V8 to approximately 430 hp, while peak torque has been increased by well over 30 per cent to substantially more than 500 Newton metres, and is maintained over a very wide rev band. The new powerplant also boasts excellent fuel consumption, with an improvement of more than 25 per cent over the previous model’s figures, while emissions are already EU6-compliant

BMW Greensboro, NCMore power, more than 30% increase of torque, more than 25% increase of efficiency.

Six-cylinder in-line high-revving, turbocharged engine.

The new BMW M3 Sedan and new BMW M4 Coupe from BMW M GmbH see a return to a six-in-line engine configuration, as used on the second and third generations of this iconic sports car. The new turbocharged unit, which can develop more than 7,500 rpm, combines the best of both worlds – on the one hand a high-revving design for instant response, linear power delivery over a wide engine speed range and an unmistakable and characterful engine note, and on the other hand BMW TwinPower Turbo technology for maximised torque over a broad rpm range. A further hallmark of this engine is its outstanding efficiency.

More power, more than 30% increase of torque, more than 25% increase of efficiency.

The BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology comprises two mono-scroll turbochargers, High Precision Direct Injection, VALVETRONIC variable valve timing and Double-VANOS seamlessly variable camshaft timing. The variable valve and camshaft timing provide fully variable control of intake valve lift. This allows the engine to deliver its power smoothly and efficiently, resulting in lower fuel consumption and emissions. At the same time, throttle response is even sharper than before.

Optimized responsiveness through impulse charging. Flow-enhanced manifolds. Charge pressure control designed to optimize dynamics. Electric wastegate actuator for high precision.

Optimized crankcase and crankshaft design.

The six-cylinder engine features a closed-deck crankcase design, which increases rigidity and allows cylinder pressures to be increased for maximized power output. And instead of liners, the cylinder bores feature a twin-wire arc-sprayed coating, which results in a significant reduction in engine weight.

Track-ready cooling system and engine oil supply for outstanding performance.

The exceptional performance of the BMW M3 Sedan and BMW M4 Coupe also demands an exceptionally sophisticated thermal management system for the engine and ancillary units. To ensure optimal operating temperatures both in short everyday trips around town and also when the vehicle is being driven flat out on the track, the M GmbH engineers developed a highly efficient cooling system, comprising a main radiator plus additional radiators for the high- and low-temperature circuits, turbocharger and transmission, while a temperature-stabilizing electric water pump ensures that the engine can develop its full performance at all times.

The engine oil supply system, too, reflects the extensive motor sport experience of BMW M GmbH. The low-weight magnesium oil sump, for example, features a special cover to limit movement of the oil under the effects of strong dynamic lateral acceleration. Under extreme longitudinal acceleration and deceleration, an oil extraction pump and a sophisticated oil return system situated close to the turbocharger likewise help to maintain uninterrupted oil circulation. Oil is therefore supplied continuously to all engine components in all driving situations – whether in everyday motoring or during hard driving on the track.

BMW X6 vs. Mercedes-Benz M-Class Coupé | Greensboro, NC

At the 2014 Beijing Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz announced the M-Class Coupe which will rival the BMW X6. The concept vehicle previews the final design which will be slightly toned down.

10155460_10152575399597454_6478226770667697226_n

While in the case of the X6 the practical conceived X5 serves as the base, Mercedes-Benz uses their ML as a technical platform for M-Class Coupe. The current generation of M-Class has been on the market since 2011 and is built at the U.S. plant in Tuscaloosa, where also Mercedes MLC Coupe could run off the assembly line.

The grille and headlights are very GLA with a more dynamic. The many folds and creases in the hood and doors also give the concept a sportier look inspired by the GLA again. Mercedes says the rear end was inspired by the S-Class Coupe.

The slopping curve of the roof is actually quite reminiscent of the X6, with a combination of modern and sportiness in a single package.

“The Concept Coupé SUV stands out thanks to its extreme proportions and in doing so interprets our hall mark coupé design idiom,” says Mercedes-Benz design boss, Gorden Wagener.

At 4935mm in length, 2044mm in width and 1739mm in height, the Concept Coupé SUV is said to closely mirror its production sibling in size. If these figures are retained, the MLC will be 58mm longer, 61mm wider and 49mm higher than the existing first-generation BMW X6.

Mercedes-Benz has fitted the Concept Coupé SUV with twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre petrol V6. The new unit produces 328 hp at 5500 rpm and 354lb-ft between 1400 and 4000rpm.

10291239_10152575399807454_2064076579155015097_n

This is 22bhp and 59lb ft more than that delivered by the turbocharged 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder direct injection petrol engine used by the soon-to-be-superseded X6 xDrive35i.

It offers the choice between Comfort, Slippery, Sport, Sport Plus and Individual – the latter of which allows the driver to mix and match various elements, including settings for the throttle, steering and damper stiffness.

We put together a photo comparison between the M-Class Coupe and the current generation X6 which also be replaced later this year.

Automobile Manufacturers Ditch Side Mirrors in 2017 – Greensboro, NC

The 12-member Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, which represents such companies as BMW, General Motors, Toyota and Volkswagen, filed a petition with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to use sideview cameras instead of mirrors.

tesla-model-X-prototype-front-left-side-view

Tesla and the Alliance argue that cameras could be just as safe while offering gains in aerodynamics. This is because side mirrors have to jut out farther from the car to be effective, and that creates drag.

“In light of future greenhouse gas and corporate average fuel economy requirements beginning in 2017,” their petition says, “camera-based systems represent an opportunity to increase vehicle fuel efficiency through improved aerodynamics by eliminating externally mounted mirrors.”

The filling goes hand in hand with the latest ruling by NHTSA that will require rearview cameras in all light-duty vehicles produced after mid-2018. Tesla sees eliminating side mirrors as a way to extend the driving range of its electric cars.

The use of 360 camera systems and rear view cameras come to support the filling and the automakers that safety will remain at the highest levels.

It remains unknown what BMW’s position is but we have no doubt that Elon Musk will continue to push this issue.

2015 Audi S8 Test Drive And Review | Greensboro, NC

2015 Audi S8 Test Drive And Review | Greensboro, NC

2015-Audi-S8-Shawn-Molnar-Sun-Media-Autonet.ca-01-750x500It was a pleasant surprise to check my email and find an invite to drive Audi’s latest iteration of their flagship S8 sedan in my inbox. I’d long respected Audi for its engineering prowess – the Audi Quattro S1 Group-B rally car and all-conquering modern LMP1 LeMans racers come to mind – but as a BMW driver with a distinct distain for front-heavy, understeering cars, I flew to Dusseldorf for the S8 launch with guarded excitement.

Audi has, after all, had a longstanding marriage with understeer. Just how does Audi’s flagship compare to the best from BMW and Alpina? A long, unrestricted stretch of Autobahn linked up with a treacherously curvy B-road served as judge and jury. I took notes.

Audi’s excellent interior build quality is striking and beautiful – horsepower and top-speed concerns fall into the shadows of the S8’s leather, carbon-fibre and metal-covered dash while running your hands across the curvaceous cabin. The seats are firm and supportive, holding you in sport-ready luxury. Okay – they’re not Recaros, but this is no Ferrari. It’s an Audi S8 – interestingly enough, the first car ever built upon an all-aluminum space frame, right in front of the world’s second aluminum-framed car, the Ferrari 360 Modena.

Impressive as the S8’s high-speed cruising proved to be, it was the sedan’s performance in the twisty bits that impressed me the most.

Hunting apexes in Audi’s S8 proved a worthy pastime, and there were plenty of apexes to be had on the sprawling backroads of Dusseldorf’s rural countryside. Audi’s elimination of weight by way of Aluminum construction technology gives the S8 a dual personality. On one hand the machine proves itself a stately executive sedan; on the other hand, it proves itself a plus-size sports car.

Throwing the nose into corners is best accomplished with trail-braking, firmly planting the front tires into the road surface with ample grip for turn-in. The chassis follows nicely, always stable and predictable, maintaining a hint of understeer throughout. Only when pressing on near 10/10ths pace will the S8 reveal some oversteer, requiring quick flicks of opposite lock steering. The rear-bias torque distribution helps the S8 assume a more rear-drive dynamic character, but it’s ultimately an easy to use supercar for four. It will make any driver appear talented as it seamlessly puts all 520 horses to the ground sans-drama. Exiting corners in haste is typically a point and shoot exercise – no fancy car control skills or Piloti shoes required.

How the S8 stacks up against its most aggressive German competition is easy to discern after having vetted all parties. Where the Alpina B7 hangs its tail out for a lurid, smoky slide, the S8 finds grip and powers through the corner. True, you can find grip in the Alpina, but you’ve got to manage it; it requires finesse behind the wheel to drive the Alpina quickly whereas the S8 just sticks – no dancing with the petals required. Where the 760iL requires a timid right foot, the S8 beckons full power, and neatly lays it on the road surface.

The S8 is a refined sports sedan, one that doesn’t wish to make a big display of its performance. Nor does the S8 wish to challenge its driver, demanding car control skills from behind the wheel. It just welcomes more power and translates it to hunkered-down speed, reliably, and without a fuss.

2015-Audi-S8-Shawn-Molnar-Sun-Media-Autonet.ca-26

The feeling you get from behind the wheel bears the rigid frame beneath, there is a certain solidity to the S8 that even the BMWs don’t quite match. The engine torque tugging on the front wheels distorts slightly what would otherwise be a vivid tactile picture of the contact patch; when it comes to steering feel the 7-series has a slight advantage.

Which car you ought to have in your driveway really depends on your driving style, local climate and highways. If you live on an alpine mountain pass with steep inclines to your front door – the S8 wins hands down. But if you’re idea of a rewarding commute to work involves drifting through second-gear corners, the BMW is your weapon.

Of course, an aggressive left-right flick into the right corner can get the S8 to rotate nicely, evoking memories of the Audi Quattro rally car dominating the segment. In this top-shelf segment of German super-sedans, you really can’t lose.

BMW Strut Assembly : BMW Service in Greensboro, NC

BMW Strut Assembly: BMW Service in Greensboro, NC

Does your car give you an uneasy and uncomfortable feeling as it lean its way every time you are on a tight curve? Or does it rock from side to side when you are changing lanes. Rear_suspension_strut_L_28.07.2010

If your car is having a drift form left to right whenever you apply brakes firmly at a high speed, well the problem then must be your strut assembly. A badly shaped strut can affect greatly the performance of your car when it comes to speed and durability. Along with it, a worn out shock can also affect you car’s breaking effectiveness.

We all know that shocks are the one responsible in giving us a comfortable ride in our car. But what we don’t know with them is that they also influence the control and handling characteristics of your vehicle. Struts along with the shocks can wear out gradually because of the constant bump your car usually gets. Excessive driving on a rocky surface can extremely affect the life of your strut. Struts are the first in line from being battered from extreme hostile that the underneath of your car usually gets.

Usually on BMW cars, strut assembly is composed of a strut housing that provides the rigorous structural support for the assembly, a coil spring are used to support the vehicles weight and a damping unit within the strut housing are the one who controls the movement of the spring and the suspension. Steering knuckle is being attached also to the bottom of the strut body in which it is connected in the lower arm control using a lower ball joint. The assembly also includes a jounce bumper that is located under the upper spring seat. The main purpose of this part is to limit the travel that was made by the suspension by not allowing the components to hit each other.

Finally, in the end of the strut assembly there is a large nut that holds everything together in place. Vehicle strut assembly must be always checked at least once a year to ensure its conjunction to the alignment of the wheel. So, if you need a strut assembly for your BMW then you came to the right place — Eurobahn Motorsports. You don’t have to worry because we can install in as well.

BMW Recommended Service Intervals- Greensboro, NC

Most people in the Triad area are aware that automotive manufacturers have recommended service intervals. Following recommended service intervals is very important. The engineers that design our vehicles have tested the various systems and components to meet durability and safety standards.

BMW-MINI Mercedes-Benz & Audi Schedule Service Intervals
Schedule Service Intervals

The maintenance schedules are designed to achieve the standards. Think of the benefits of following recommended intervals as falling into three general categories: Protection, Efficiency and Safety.

Protection. Let’s start with motor oil. First of all, the engineers recommend a particular weight and type of motor oil for your sedan. All of their oil change recommendations assume using the proper motor oil. Motor oil contains detergents and other additives that clean the engine and provide corrosion resistance. Over time, the additives are depleted. The oil also becomes contaminated by water, dirt and combustion gases.

Extending your interval beyond the recommendation means that your sedan engine will be operating without the full protection of fresh motor oil. It also means that sludge can form in contaminated oil and clog up passages in the engine, starving parts from needed lubrication.

Efficiency. Some services are designed to keep automotive systems operating efficiently. For example, the fuel system gets clogged up with gum and varnish from the fuel. Fuel doesn’t flow efficiently which reduces fuel economy. A fuel system cleaning restores the fuel system’s efficiency and increases your gas mileage.

Safety. Your brakes are obviously one of the most important safety systems on your sedan. The manufacturer has scheduled brake pad replacement as well as power brake fluid drain and replacement intervals. Because brakes are so important, a brake inspection is also on the schedule to head off problems before they result in an accident.

Check your owner’s manual for recommended service schedules or talk with an Expert service advisor at Eurobahn Motorsports by calling 336-542-3555. You’ll find our shop located at 303 S. Swing Rd, Greensboro North Carolina, 27409.

You may be surprised to learn that various inspections may be on your list of factory recommendations for your sedan. These inspections are usually at major intervals like fifteen or thirty thousand miles. They’re designed to uncover important parts that may be close to failing.

Your sedan owner’s manual can tell you when to change your oil, but it can’t tell you that you have a radiator hose that’s bulging and about to burst. For that you need a trained auto technician. These scheduled inspections are in addition to the multi-point inspections done with a full-service oil change.

Replace Your Wiper Blades- Greensboro, NC

Having a good pair of windshield wipers is extremely important. We’ve all experienced the frustration and fear of not being able to see clearly during a storm, or when our windshield is just dirty.

BMW windshield wiper

It seems like your wiper blades are always at their worst when you need them the most. But windshield wipers are like most other vehicle parts– they require regular attention in order to work their best.

You really ought to replace your wiper blades twice a year; in the spring and the fall. If it’s going to be a particularly harsh winter in Greensboro, you may even want to get special winter blades in the fall. Winter blades are designed to resist freezing.

Speaking of winter and freezing conditions, if your car has been sitting for a long time and the windshield becomes frozen, don’t use your wipers to clear off snow and ice. That’ll just tear up the blades and cause them to wear out more quickly. It may even damage the wiper motor.

Over time, wiper blades become hard and brittle, and then tear. They also lose their flexibility and just don’t cover the windshield effectively.

Worn wiper blades aren’t just a safety hazard; they can also scratch your windshield. That may require replacing the entire windshield; a big cost for such a little part.

Replace worn blades right away. Your local service center can provide you with a quality replacement blade. They cost about the same as they would at the store; but installation is included at Eurobahn Motorsports.

Of course you also need washer fluid to help your blades do their work. Even though your local Greensboro service center will top off the washer fluid with a full service oil change, it is a good idea to have some extra fluid at home, or in the car if you are on a long trip.

Always use windshield washer fluid. Plain water, even that fancy bottled water, may freeze in the fluid reservoir or on the windshield itself, making things worse. Besides, water won’t do a good job of cleaning your windows.

And remember that some vehicles have two reservoirs: one for the windshield and one for the back window – which may be under the hood or somewhere in the back. Schedule A service Today!

Interior Restoration- Audi, BMW, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, MINI, Jaguar, Sprinter Van, and Volkswagen in Greensboro, NC

Interior Restoration

interior

Rebuilding a seat after the materials have workout their useful life is dependent on the purpose and intent of the seat itself. Remember, you are going to use that seat every time you get in your vehicle, might as well make it comfortable. At Eurobahn Motorsports we specialize in Interior Restoration.

Materials have improved dramatically, the cushions in the seat bottom are now built not only to be soft and comfortable, also to withstand the extreme temperatures and differences in size / weight of its occupants. Replacing a seat cushion with one that is more your liking is a complex decision.

This is where experience in replacing many seat cushions and using a variety of materials matters. We choose materials based on their ability to reach a high standard so that they will do what they say they will for a long time. Some people want more support in the sides, while wanting it to be easier on your bottom, this is where we have knowledge to share and explain how it will be different than the material used at the factory.

Walking a customer through all the variations of materials underneath the actual cover is not a phone conversation or email away, we could do it that way, but and we mean but, our goal is to deliver you what you want. So, a face to face discussion is our best bet to deliver quality. Picking out materials for the performance underneath is where we have the edge in providing lasting results.

Understanding how to correctly take apart is seat and be able to replace, fine tune, add/subtract material, and then cover it with material so that it has the right look and feel is not a textbook process, so when you do get your car back and it delivers the performance you expect, looks better than OEM, you know you got your monies worth.

Don’t forget the expectations from your automobile manufacturer, they have strict requirements of ‘how’ a seat is put together to ensure that it will perform properly in the event of an impending accident. We are certified and will return your interior to OEM specs for safety reasons, it is the right thing to do.
