The Porsche Taycan Turbo S with two electric motors and all-wheel drive weighs 10 kg less than Mercedes’ high-performance plug-in hybrid variant with V8 and electric motor. What is the most effective concept?
The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E-Performance high-performance PHEV variant, which is the most powerful PHEV in the sector with 843 hp and more than 1400 Nm, was unveiled at the IAA in Munchen in fall 2021. (1470 Nm estimated by auto motor und sport).

The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE has improved performance. Taycan has a maximum HP of 761 for 2.5 seconds, but only for 2.5 seconds because it only has 625 HP the rest of the time. Thus, Mercedes has 82 horsepower and 400 Nm greater torque than the Taycan (Taycan 1050 Nm). The torque differential is significant, and it corresponds to the torque of a high-performance 2-liter diesel engine.

Porsche is cheaper but has less autonomy
The Porsche features a 93.4 kWh battery, which is a large capacity for an electric car, but it is only comparable to 11 liters of gasoline in terms of energy. The Taycan Turbo S has a range of 390 to 416 kilometers and a consumption of 25 kWh/100 kilometers. However, as the maximum speed in the WLTP cycle is 120 km/h, this consumption is irrelevant at high speeds.
