2018 Land Rover Discovery: 5 New Features to Discover

The Land Rover Discovery, with considerable tweaking, heads into its 2018 model year in the form of a mid-size SUV that continues to offer five and seven-seat versions. Here are five new things that Land Rover Greensboro NC experts discovered about the 2018 model, which goes on sale early next year.

Fancier Tech:

All 2018 models come standard with InControl Touch Pro Infotainment with a slightly bigger 10-inch touchscreen. Plus 4G connectivity with Wi-Fi for up to eight devices is an added advantage.

The higher-level HSE and HSE Luxury trim levels also feature a configurable instrument display on a high-resolution 12.3-inch screen. The new, second-generation head-up display tat is 2.5 times bigger and in full color is optional on these trims. The extra space allows for more information, now including speed, adaptive cruise control, gear selection, traffic sign recognition, and driver assistance system warnings.

Cheaper Diesel:

With a powerful turbo-diesel 3.0 liter V6 mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission on the base SE trim level, the all new Discovery will deliver sublime driving performance at an impressive 254 hp. Previous, diesel was offered only on the higher-price HSE and HSE Luxury models, with the least expensive diesel model on HSE. It’s still offered on those higher trims.

The supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 gasoline engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission delivers an impressive 340-hp. The EPA rating for 2017 model was at 21/26/13 mpg city/highway/combined, while the same for 2018 is yet to be posted.

More standard safety:

Safety is the name of the game. The 2018 models as earlier comes equipped with a standard front collision system with automatic braking and pedestrian detection. The system warns the drivers in the event of an imminent frontal collision by providing visual and audible warnings.

New Paint Choices:

A new paint color is offered: Byron Blue, though it is not clear yet whether the inspiration for the name has anything to do with the English Romantic Poet Lord Byron. For those who would love to pick the Dynamic or Black trim packages, black and gray roof can be an excellent choice.

Ultimate Off-Road Discovery:

In September, Land Rover claimed that the luxury 4×4 can actually go off-road. According to Land Rover service experts, the Discovery SVX will be loaded with off-road upgrades to tackle extreme terrain condition.
